Winning the national finals of the Collegiate Inventors Competition was undoubtedly one of the biggest honors we've received. The selection for the final round came after a series of application steps and prior art reviews. We were so excited to see the invitations to present to live judges, but were instantly humbled by the experience we were entering into. The prestigious contest is hosted by the US Patent & Trademark in Washington D.C. and is

Of all the complexities of a 3D printer, one of the most annoying things is getting the object you are printing to “stick” to the platform - in color or monochrome.  At times, this will make you want to destroy your printer with a baseball bat (note Office Space reference).  There is nothing more frustrating than coming into the office in the morning and seeing the results of a night long print that look like

Aside from Spectrom, coffee is the next thing we are addicted to at the office. We have a number of coffee mugs to account for every member of the team.  Unfortunately this takes up a lot of room and we decided to find a way to be more space efficient by creating personalized coffee mug holders.  Each person made a holder with their initial and favorite color.  This has saved space and given a little

Have that special someone in your life?  If not: stay strong.  If yes: we all know that flowers are synonymous with “I love you” or, more sometimes: “I’m sorry.”  They also help to spruce up any area.  We have made full color, 3D printed flowers to bring some life into the office which has slowly transformed from a chemistry lab to grandma's garage.  If you ask me, they look great and are way better than the

Weekends call for a round of darts. We know that sometimes you hit bullseyes all day, other times you've nearly blinded your best friends. Either way, you should be confident with every dart throw that yours is the coolest one. We took our 3D printers and designed the wackiest thing we thought could fly... Then we glued a thumbtack to the top of it. The wings spiral out and actually affect the way it flies.

If you’re like me, you talk a mean golf game but in reality your game is flanked by mulligans. You go out and buy the latest and greatest gadgets, hoping they’ll magically change your 63 (on nine holes) to a 38. Let’s be honest, we like to have gadgets to brag about with our friends or at the next corporate event. Golf tees have been one of these gimmicks used over the years with no

I think we can all agree the 90’s were the best.  While I enjoyed the nerf guns and tomagotchis (RIP), my sister was playing with her Barbies and Easy-Bake oven.  But one of my fondest memories, that brought both family and friends together, was boardgames.  These included Candyland, Clue, Checkers, Yahtzee, Trouble and my favorite: Sorry!  Although not all were debuted in the decade, they will make any 90’s kid nostalgic. Each of these games

Holding up a sinker

Hello World! We’ve created this blog to show some of the reasons we’re so excited about 3D printing in full color. Being from Wisconsin, our first example had to be the intersection of 3D printing and fishing. (Who knew there was one) Fishing lures seemed a great place to start. Lures are designed to attract a fish through their movements in the water, their size and their color. The best lure for a given situation
